the project aims to order and simplify spinea’s urban landscape in order to build in the historic center a new system of “open-air rooms” capable of connecting and extending to the surroundings the “city effect”, intended as the ability to identify oneself in a place and to inhabit it.
Spinea is built on an in-line settlement, adjoining its main street (Via Roma), which outlines a perpendicular comb system of residences.
at the present time, the huge vehicular traffic imply to modify the essence of Via Roma, transforming it into a place of strolling and resting with a vehicular travel possible only for residents.
in this way we can regen all the central areas encompassed between the town hall and the church of San Vito and Modesto, generating a
new continuous and interfaced urban system composed of buildings and open spaces that alternate to build a dynamic urban landscape.
the project therefore studies a system of facings, views, perspectives, and pathways that enhance Villa del Maino, the barchessa, the church, and the nursery parish school, which is partly constrained by the superintendence.
to build the urban system, the master plan works on the categories and declinations of the concept of edge/margin/diaphragm, as a design element that ensures different openings to the view of the city and gives hierarchy and meaning to a now inconsistent set of open spaces.
the idea, therefore, involves the construction of a new urban port system (underground car parking) that is capable of constituting a terminal for vehicular traffic at Piazza Marconi.
