the proposal outlines a process of extrusion of new volumes facing the residential neighborhood, reducing the urban volumetric impact on Via Guido Reni.

the museum becomes a set of open and closed spaces, of solids and voids, working on the subtraction and addition of pure and contemporary volumes.

this strategy prefigures an interweaving of container and contents, which is typical of contemporary science museums.
new building volumes, transparent uglass showcases, emerge at the spans facing west toward the neighborhood, while new patio at the center of the prefab concrete roofs facing north on via Guido Reni defines a new interior courtyard.

the existent architectural sequence of the spans’ platform configures the foyer as an urban square, a meeting place between visitors and museum and conceives an architectural promenade.

the promenade, facing the new neighborhood, links together museum and city and defines a big transparent showcase that defines the urban landmark of the science museum.

the polycarbonate box is a civic centre, with an auditorium and multipurpose theater, a restaurant, a library, an archive, study spaces and a panoramic terrace at the top, from which the Flaminio district can be seen.
